Privacy Policy

Claudius Maximus (“Claudius Maximus”, “the app”, “we”, “us”) is a Mac desktop app that shows your Claude Code session and weekly usage limits in desktop widgets and alerts you before you hit a limit. We built it to run on your Mac, not on our servers. This policy explains exactly what the app touches and what — if anything — leaves your machine.
The short version
- No analytics, no telemetry, no account inside the app. We do not track you.
- Your usage numbers and your Claude credentials stay on your Mac.
- The app makes only the connections it needs: reading your Claude usage from Anthropic, refreshing your Claude token, validating your license with Lemon Squeezy, and checking for app updates.
- We never sell or share your data.
What runs on your Mac
Claudius Maximus reads the Claude Code OAuth token that Claude Code already stores in your macOS Keychain, and keeps a private copy in its own Keychain entry so it doesn’t have to re-prompt you every time the token is refreshed. That token never leaves your Mac except to talk to Anthropic (below). Your usage snapshots are written to a small local file on your Mac that the widget reads. The widget itself has no network access and no Keychain access.
Connections the app makes
- Anthropic usage API. Claudius Maximus makes a read-only request to Anthropic’s usage endpoint (api.anthropic.com) using your existing Claude token, to read your session, weekly, and Opus limits. It sends no prompts and runs no inference — it reads the same numbers Claude Code reads. When the token expires, the app refreshes it through Anthropic the same way Claude Code does. Your use of Claude is governed by Anthropic’s own terms and privacy policy. Claudius Maximus is an independent product and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Anthropic.
- License validation (Lemon Squeezy). When you activate or check your license, the app contacts Lemon Squeezy’s License API with your license key. Lemon Squeezy is our merchant of record — see “Payments” below.
- App updates (Sparkle). The app checks claudiusmaximus.dev for a signed update feed using the Sparkle framework. That is a request for a file; it does not send your usage data.
Beyond these, Claudius Maximus does not phone home. There is no Claudius Maximus analytics server.
Payments
Purchases are handled by Lemon Squeezy, our merchant of record. When you buy Claudius Maximus, Lemon Squeezy collects and processes your payment and billing information under Lemon Squeezy’s own terms and privacy policy — we never see or store your full card details. Lemon Squeezy provides us with the information needed to fulfil and support your purchase, such as your license key and the email address on the order.
Our website
claudiusmaximus.dev is a static marketing and download site. It can load an optional advertising pixel (for example, a TikTok pixel) only when a campaign ID is configured; by default no pixel is active and the site runs no analytics on you. The site is hosted by Netlify, which may process standard server logs (such as IP address and request metadata) as part of serving the page.
What we don’t do
- We don’t collect analytics or usage telemetry inside the app.
- We don’t require an account, name, or email to use the app.
- We don’t read your prompts, code, or conversations — the app only reads usage-limit numbers.
- We don’t sell, rent, or share your personal information.
Data retention & your control
Because your usage data and credentials live on your Mac, you control them. Deleting the app and its local container removes the stored usage snapshots; removing the app’s Keychain entry removes its cached token copy. Lemon Squeezy retains order and license records under its own policy; contact us if you’d like help with a data request related to your purchase.
International users
Anthropic, Lemon Squeezy, and Netlify may process data in countries other than yours. By using Claudius Maximus you understand that these third parties operate internationally and are governed by their own privacy policies.
Children
Claudius Maximus is a developer tool and is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country).
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app changes. The current version always lives at claudiusmaximus.dev/privacy, with the effective date at the top.
